UN General Assembly bringing heightened security, traffic disruptions to NYC

The United Nations General Assembly is set to kick off next week, with more than 100 world leaders, including President Joe Biden, arriving in New York City.

Now, the NYPD, in collaboration with state and federal agencies, is preparing for what is considered one of the city’s largest annual security operations. While officials have confirmed there are no credible threats at this time, law enforcement remains on high alert to ensure the safety of foreign dignitaries, New Yorkers, and visitors.

Visible security measures, including canine units, aviation patrols, and water security, will be deployed throughout the city, particularly around the UN headquarters on First Avenue. However, many security tactics will remain behind the scenes, with diplomatic security personnel monitoring every move.

“This is the largest annual gathering of global leaders on the planet,” said Patrick Freaney, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Secret Service’s New York Field Office. “Given the enormity of this event, the Department of Homeland Security has given it the designation of a national security event.”

Starting at 5 a.m. on Sunday, New Yorkers can expect road closures that will significantly affect traffic. Streets affected include:

  • 1st Avenue from 34th to 51st Streets
  • 42nd Street from 2nd to 1st Avenue
  • Portions of 44th, 46th, and 48th Streets from 2nd to 1st Avenue

This year, protests over the Israel-Hamas war are an expected concern for the NYPD, who say that violence and vandalism will not be tolerated.

Authorities say the goal is to be ready for any and everything.

Police fatally shoot man after chase from NYC to Long Island

Police fatally shot a man on Long Island after he led officers on a chase that started in New York City and left several injured, authorities said.

Late Friday night in Queens, NYPD officers tried pulling the man over. But he sped away and continued evading police until he was stopped in Massapequa, Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said.

The man “tried to ram” two NYPD officers as he fled, and ultimately injured officers and a civilian during the pursuit, Ryder said at a news conference Saturday.

“NYPD put the notification over the air that they were heading towards Nassau County. We engaged with that vehicle somewhere in the area of Merrick on Sunrise Highway. At that time, the officers had boxed in the individual. The individual decided he was not going to stop. He ran through, took off two of our police cars, two of our officers they attempted to run over. They dove out of the way and that vehicle took off again,” Ryder said.

The chase continued as the driver headed further down Sunrise Highway.

“It rammed another police car on Sunrise Highway, then it jumped and went the wrong way on Sunrise Highway, then it came back into the lane and it struck a civilian car. That civilian is in the hospital being treated right now,” Ryder said.

The man got to Hicksville Road and Sunrise Highway in Massapequa, where Ryder said officers tried to take him into custody.

“Officers got out of their car to take control and arrest the individual. That individual did not comply. There was a shooting that occurred and that individual died,” said Ryder.

Two NYPD officers were injured. Five Nassau County officers were taken to the hospital; three suffered minor injuries, we’re told.

NYC interim police commissioner says feds raided his homes

New York City’s interim police commissioner revealed late Saturday that federal authorities had executed search warrants at his homes the previous day.

Thomas Donlon, who became the interim commissioner just one week ago after the resignation of his predecessor, issued a statement on the search through the police department.

“On Friday, September 20, federal authorities executed search warrants at my residences. They took materials that came into my possession approximately 20 years ago and are unrelated to my work with the New York City Police Department,” the statement said.

“This is not a department matter, and the department will not be commenting,” he added.

Redecorate the L Train!

Zine: Sabotage of ATMs, Fare Machines, and Parking Meters

[READ]                   [PRINT]

Hopping the turnstile isn’t enough. Likely you’ve already been hopping the turnstile for years and a call for a boycott is no change in your daily routine. But what if we cut off revenue for the most of the line? MTA and NYPD need to feel the heat.

Let’s redecorate all the L train stations. Make them free for everyone, and maybe leave some nice art on those annoying ads while we’re at it.

All you need is some superglue and giftcards to sabotage the card swipe. For OMNY I suggest something pointed like a pick, but I’m sure a hammer will do. Use your wrist. Bike locks for the emergency exits. I’m sure you know the drill. But in case anyone is unfamiliar or wants to jump in some newly radicalized comrades, here’s an old zine you can share around.

September 18, 2024

NYPD OUT OF THE MTA: Tonight, New Yorkers stood up for their community and protested the expansion and impunity of the police occupation of their city. Last Sunday, the NYPD shot Derrell Mickles and three others after Mickles entered the platform through the emergency exit at the Sutter Ave. station in Brownsville—committing a mass shooting in one of New York City’s poorest neighborhoods. In response, hundreds of city residents conducted a mass fare evasion at the West 4th station, hopping the turnstiles to say clearly that no one should be killed for not having $2.90, that in fact the subway should be free—and free of cops.

For their part, the NYPD were once again humiliated and shown to be paper tigers when confronted by the ingenuity and mass action of the city. As dozens streamed through the gates, onto the platforms, and into the different subway cars, cops brutalized and arrested those few they could get their hands on. The people are undeterred and are committed to maintaining this form of mass action in the weeks to come.

An institution founded from the slave patrols past, the NYPD protects property and capital, it funnels black and immigrant populations into endless cycles of immiseration and poverty and modern enslavement. Our cities are under occupation: cop training facilities are flourishing all across America—we have one in our backyard near College Point Queens. These facilities advance and refine strategies of repression and counterinsurgency, so as to ensure that no mass action against oppression, incarceration, and depredation will be allowed to exist.

We must end this. Out of the homes and into the streets. Live free, ride free, fuck the NYPD.

September 10 Black Bloc: Full Communique

Protesters in black bloc marched in NYC [on September 10] to demand an end to genocide, colonialism, & police states. Protesters chanted the names of Aysenur Eygi & Tortuguita & redecorated corporate property with anti-colonial artwork. NYPD cops later made multiple brutal arrests. Below is a communique released by some of the protesters:

When we revolt it’s not for a particular culture. We revolt simply because, for many reasons, we can no longer breathe.’ – Franz Fanon

To Kamala Harris and Donald J. Trump, your goals aren’t new, or the way you achieve your goals. It was always domination by brutality, by dividing and isolating, by dehumanizing and villainizing. Just look at how you treat our Palestinian siblings, how you bring those same colonialist and imperialist methods here, and begin to slowly implement them to oppress poor working class communities and the marginalized groups that make up those communities. You murder with our tax dollars, brutalize and kill those who are fed up with their oppression, and proclaim you’re the truth and law of the world.

Aysenur Eygi did not deserve to die, while not the first, we know she won’t be the last. Even though her death was at the hands of the IOF, the rifle and bullet they fired were made and supplied under the orders of Biden And YOU.

Kamala, you say nothing will change under your administration, but that isn’t up to you. If nothing will change, then we will make that change.

Trump, you’re what you’ve always been, a snake pretending to be a wolf. Your mask fell years ago, and the record is clear, you’re a scam artist, a con-man, and a wannabe fascist dictator. We will let you know now, that your fascist movement will break against our shield walls, and crumple in our city’s streets.

Meanwhile, corrupt mayor Eric Adams and his allies cut community funding, line their pockets, and starve New Yorkers. We, this NYC black bloc, made up of revolutionary New Yorkers, will feed them.

In this city corporate greed reigns, and the interests of landlords, hedge funds, and the rich elites fuels every crisis. They’ve spent decades militarizing the NYPD, building cop cities, sending them abroad to train with the IOF, investing and donating mass surveillance tech, pushing budget cuts, and funding every other piece of their police state. All on the dime of poor working class New Yorkers, and all of it to keep your fellow New Yorkers brutalized, isolated, starved, and exploitable. Manipulating us to blame migrants, and to bring back the militarized ICE into our neighborhoods, all while turning our precious city into a personal playground for the rich and powerful, inevitably ending with the destruction of our communities, the dispossession of its people, and their displacement. Leaving cheap pockets of labor to exploit and cater to their every need.

But no more!! We call on all New Yorkers to join us in the streets, to take action like we have, and put an end to this police state, this corrupt administration, the corporate greed, and the suffering so many of us have endured by their hands. To Eric Adams, his admin, the NYPD, and their financial and political allies, the Feds are encircling, they smell the rats nest, and so do we. Even if they don’t stop you, the people are waking up, we’re rising, and we’ll be prepared to drive the final nail.

Call to Action: Mass Fare Evasion in Response to Police Shooting

NYPD PIGS SHOOT 4 PEOPLE—INCLUDING A FELLOW PIG—AFTER ONE MAN EVADES MTA FARE

STATE-SANCTIONED MURDER OVER A $2.90 TICKET

RESIST PIG VIOLENCE! STOP COP NATION!

FARES ARE FREE. DON’T PAY. JOIN US IN MASS FARE EVASION. TAKE OUR CITY BACK FROM THE PIGS.

LET REPRESSION BREED MORE RESISTANCE.

ALL ZIONIST, POLICE & SURVEILLANCE INFRASTRUCTURE ARE LEGITIMATE TARGETS. 🔻🔻🔻

Just four days ago, Governor Kathy Hochul praised the National Guard for their presence in subway stations. Her celebration of increased pig pollution—including random bag checks—and her proposed legislation banning masks on the subway have been part of the state’s effort to repress protests for Palestine in NYC. However, the escalated policing of public transit is not only a war on activists, but on ALL New Yorkers, whose lives are endangered by increased exposure to the scourge of COVID-19 and trigger-happy pigs on their daily commute. MAKE NO MISTAKE: FASCISM IS ALREADY HERE IN AMERIKKKA.

Police Shooting In NYC Subway Injures NYPD Officer, 2 Bystanders

New York City Police fired shots in a Brooklyn subway station while pursuing a person they suspected of fare evasion, injuring the man along with an NYPD officer and two bystanders.

Around 3 p.m. Sunday, two NYPD officers followed a 37-year-old man to the platform at the Sutter Avenue station in the eastern part of the borough after observing that he did not pay the subway fare.

The man reportedly refused to stop on the platform after police asked him to stop.

NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey said at a press conference that the individual told officers, “I’m going to kill you if you don’t stop following me.” Maddrey added that the police then “become aware that he has a knife in his pocket.”

The officers followed the man onto a northbound train that had arrived in the station. According to police, after the man refused orders from the officers to come with them, they used a Taser on him twice.

The individual then moved back onto the platform and advanced towards one of the officers with his knife. Both officers drew their weapons, fired multiple rounds and then handcuffed the man, who was on the ground. At that point, one of the officers noticed he had been hit by a bullet, as well as the indivudal and other bystanders.

Detectives reviewed video footage from the incident and determined that it’s possible that a bullet ricocheted off of the inside of the train and hit the officer.

The suspect, two bystanders and the officer were hospitalized after the incident. The NYPD officer sustained an injury after being shot in the chest area, but is in “good spirits and expected to make a full recovery,” NYPD Commissioner Thomas Donlon said at the press conference.

“There will be a full and thorough investigation conducted into this incident as we always do in cases like this,” Donlon said.

The individual suspected of fare evasion is currently in critical condition with charges pending.

Banner Drop Against Cop City in “Queens” – Full Communique

September 7, 2024

NO COP CITY IN QUEENS! FUCK YOU, ADAMSTHIS MEANS WAR.

In September 2021, the city of Atlanta leased 381 acres of Weelaunee Forest to the Atlanta Police Foundation for a $90 million dollar training facility, funded by bloodthirsty corporations. Atlanta’s Cop City is modeled off of the iof’s “Little Gaza” facility, which was built in 2006 with $45 million dollars of US aid. These mock cities are the training grounds in which the pigs perfect “urban warfare strategies” with the express purpose of stifling organized dissent, perpetuating gentrification, and increasing violence against our most vulnerable communitiesparticularly Black, Indigenous, and brown communities. As of July 31 2024, there are 80 cop city projects in the works in 49 of 50 states, all of this against the backdrop of a for-profit penal system.

In New York City, the concept of a cop city extends far beyond official training grounds, bleeding into all aspects of civilian life. Even before the greenlighting of Queens’ $225 million dollar pigsty, New Yorkers have been facing unpreccedented levels of state repression, and relentless surveillance by a police force large and powerful enough to be considered a standing army.

The purported goal of Queens’ cop cityset to break ground in 2026, in College Pointis to consolidate training for 18 city agencies, including the department of sanitation, homeless services, the administration for children’s services, parks enforcement, and the department of corrections, among others; essentially, it aims to militarize city government workers.

Meanwhile, eric adams is slashing hundreds of millions of dollars from homeless services, children’s services and other programs that New Yorkers depend onSNAP, medicaid, libraries, and rental vouchers, for exanplein order to pad the nypd’s already-bloated budget to a record-breaking $12 billion in 2025. We’ve all seen the increase of pigs in our communities, the national guard at subway stations, private security firms such as Allied partnering with  the MTA. We’ve seen the blueprints for a 300-ft. high jail im Chinatown. We’ve seen an increase in violent sweeps of both street vendors and our homeless neighbors.

NYPD, KKK, IOF, THEY’RE ALL THE SAME.

As we heed the Palestinian resistance’s call, we must remember that the nypd and israel are two heads of the same snake. The “war on terror” of the early 200s led u.s. law enforcement (including the nypd) to attend official training expeditions to the zionist state in order to exchange “best practices” in “counter-terrorism”. After his 2023 trip to the zionist state, adams returned “inspired” by the iof’s use of drone technology, and subsequently implemented unmanned surveillance drones across nyc. In Gaza, drones are used to much deadlier effect. On numerous occasions, such as the Flour Massacre in Februarry 2024, drones have been used to kill unarmed civilians in densely populated areas.

We know by now that pigs do not keep us safe: 600+ people are killed and more than 250,000 civilians are injured by police annually in the united states. Reports of abuse at the hands of the nypd have surged since adams became mayor. Annually, an average of 9 New Yorkers are murdered by pigsin 2022, that number rose to 13. That same year, 9 people were pronounced dead while in nypd custody, Since 2021, complaints filed with the Civilian Complaint Review Board have increased 51%, with New Yorkers filing 5,604 complaintsa ten-year record. The nypd spent $115 million on misconduct payouts last year alone. Not only that, but officers enjoy relative impunity within the nypd’s internal affairs process. adams’ first police commissioner, keechant sewell, reversed internal affairs’ discipline rulings at a record rate, reducing or annulling penalties for more than half of all pigs found to have committed misconduct at an administrative trial during her term.

What is this cop city for, if not training up masses of trigger-happy pigs? What can we do when these violent hordes are set loose on civilians as a means of protecting the interests of a rich minority? How do we respond to a state and system hellbent on the total suppression of any and all resistance to the capitalist, imperialist nightmare threatening all human and nonhuman life?

What does it mean for us when we’re faced with organized abandonment, dispossession, disenfranchisement, and the reality that our tax dollars are currently funding the Palestinian genocide?

THIS MEANS WAR.

For years, the state has been wielded as a weapon by the owning class in order to dispossess and subjugate those at the mercy of their predations, both within and beyond the borders of the united states. To those who put their faith in reform: you do not understand that the entire system is compromised, septic, unsalvageable. It is not enough to merely “kill the cop in our heads” or “decolonize our minds”. We must attack the physical strongholds of the colonizer, the cop, and all those who unjustly wield their powers, and we must strike from all angles. Leaving them unchecked allows the rot to spread; pig deputy mayor phil banks that he “hopes the academy will be a model for other cities across the country”. We must refute this.

This banner drop is not an action, but a call. May we heed the burning of Minneapolis’s 3rd precinct a thousand times over. We call on our allies to organize, escalate, to shake off the torpor, the weariness, the fear. Resist. As for our enemiesthe false comfort and peace that you take for granted is bought with the blood of millions. When our time comes, we will make no apologies for what we do to you.

FUCK 12, FUCK ADAMS, FUCK THE U.S. EMPIRE, AND ALL GLORY TO THE RESISTANCE.

Sharp metal objects placed under Brooklyn NYPD SRG’s personal vehicles

Late July 24, we entered the parking area of NYPD’s Strategic Response Group in Brooklyn and put sharp metal objects under multiple pigs’ personal vehciels. Any of those pigs getting off work would have been met with the unpleasant surprise of punctured tires as they started for home.

This happened on the same day the NYPD sent 200 outside agitators to DC to protect genocidal war criminal Netanyahu and the U.S. imperialist mission.

Maybe cops shouldn’t feel safe enough in our city to spread their violence elsewhere. Why does the NYPD even have offices from Tucson, Arizona to Bogota, Colombia?

The SRG is the unit notorious for violently repressing protestors. These pigs sign up voluntarily to be SRG to crack skulls. This is payback for their brutality against Palestine protestors and student encampments.

We targeted their personal vehicles because it is time they faced a personal cost for their actions. These pigs walk among us, feeling safe and complacent. It’s on us to teach them they aren’t.

The Legal Aid Society stated NYC paid out $114,586,723 million for police misconduct in 2023. These lawsuits for pig brutality don’t come out of their pockets. And the NYPD has so much money they are spending $1390 per patrol car just to replace a slogan decal.

We must chip away at empire in every small way. Avenge the Palestinian martyrs. Avenge Sonya Massey. Fuck the police.
