NYPD to train officers, buy equipment for drone threats during World Cup, America 250

he New York Police Department announced that it is training officers and buying equipment to counter weaponized drone threats during the FIFA World Cup and America 250 celebrations.

The NYPD said Thursday that it is buying $6.5 million in drone mitigation equipment ahead of the events and giving counterterrorism officers special training.

She noted the proliferation of weaponized drones in the Ukraine and Iran wars and said that it is the one threat that “keeps me up at night.”

When asked whether there was a specific threat involving weaponized drones, Tisch declined to elaborate, but she said, “It would be a mistake to ignore the technology.”

The Justice Department is expected to issue new rules to allow local police departments to take down drones, which has largely been reserved for the FBI.

The World Cup is set to begin on June 11 in cities across North America. The championship match is scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, just outside New York City.

World Cup-related events are to be held in New York City, including in Rockefeller Center. The city is also set to host several America 250 celebrations during the July 4th weekend, including Macy’s annual fireworks display.

Hackensack man charged with setting fire to multiple police cars

Police arrested a Hackensack man on arson charges, accusing him of setting multiple police vehicles on fire in a Hackensack parking lot on Aug. 30, announced the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

[Name], 78, was arrested on Sept. 2 on charges of aggravated arson and arson among other criminal mischief charges.

At about 8:09 p.m., the Hackensack Police and Fire Department were dispatched to put out a fire at Municipal Parking Lot Area T, located at 78 Trinity Pl. Upon arrival, police found three marked Hackensack Police Department vehicles engulfed in flames.

No injuries were reported and the police vehicles were unoccupied, according to the BCPO.

[Name] is accused of intentionally setting the police vehicles on fire by pouring and igniting an accelerant onto the vehicles before fleeing the scene.

The press release sent from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office did not say why [name] was determined to be the suspect.

Tesla vandalism incidents in New York City and New Jersey

The NYPD is searching for the vandals who carved a swastika on a parked Tesla in Brooklyn.

It’s part of a growing number of attacks against Teslas amid CEO Elon Musk’s role in the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency and the slashing of thousands of federal jobs.

The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is now investigating the Cybertruck that was vandalized in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

Video released by the NYPD shows one suspect crouch down next to the Cybertruck and allegedly carve a swastika and the word “Nazi” onto the door while another suspect looked on.

It happened on Monroe Street early Thursday morning.

Another incident was reported Thursday, which happened on March 13.

A 38-year-old man found a sticker with a swastika and “Musk” written on it affixed to the driver’s side rear bumper of his Tesla sedan, parked at Hawthorne Street and Rogers Avenue in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Brooklyn.

This follows another similar act of vandalism in the city. Police say two suspects painted a red swastika on a Cybertruck near the intersection of Rivington and Chrystie streets on the Lower East Side.

It happened on March 6 after 10 p.m. The Hate Crimes Task Force is also involved in that investigation.

In South Jersey, neighbors are on alert after they say a man aggressively pursued several Tesla owners over the weekend.

This was in the Cherry Hill neighborhood Saturday evening, when the driver of a red Acura SUV was spotted antagonizing Tesla drivers.

“He was driving on the wrong side of the road and driving very erratically,” a victim said. “The person driving the red SUV blocked us from pulling out of the driveway, rolled down his window, and said, ‘You know why, right?’ And flipped us the middle finger.”
